To realize our vision of a self-sustaining community, organizational change was needed to support Chief and Council’s directions. In November 19th, 2007, a Chief Executive Officer and in 2008 a Chief Financial Officer, as well as a Director of Housing, were hired. Both the CEO and CFO have MBA’s and strong backgrounds (Masters) in environmental studies. This led to changes in duties and reporting relationships in some administrative positions.
With the goals of transparency and accountability in mind, new committees will be formed to gather more community input. Council members will chair the groups and gather advice to manage key areas like tourism, housing and economic development. Chief and Council remain committed to showing the world one vision, Waycobah’s shared vision.
A new key initiative is to obtain ISO-9001 certification. It is our CEO’s top priority. All administrative policies and procedures will be documented and approved by Chief and Council. This designation assures community members that a sound Quality Management System (QMS) is in place to address the following:
- Clarification of responsibilities at all levels and for all activities
- Introduction of well documented procedures
- Assistance in decision making, based in fact, with solid information
- Reduced confusion and uncertainty, and associated stress or tension
- Enhanced credibility and a solid corporate image
Waycobah First Nation will map out all key processes in administration and Band departments; control them by monitoring, measurement and analysis, to ensure that product quality objectives are met.
